Taxi bullying in bus lanes

Without reference to the relative proportions of each, that's as true as it is meaningless. But I know which is more likely to kill me.

And it's funny you should mention zebra crossings. Taxi drivers are second only to old BMWs in their tendency to overtake on the approach and to drive straight across a zebra when there are still people on it.

Is it? Whats likely to kill you. Well on a bike I suspect it will be a HGV or maybe a Bus or a coach. The London Taxi will be well down, if they are on it at all some years, the 'what kills London Cyclist' list. As for what kills pedestrians, I wonder what the risk is of meeting your maker either from a London taxi or a cyclist whilst out on two feet. I wouldn't like to make a call on that one.

Oh please spare me the generalisation of road user groups - its boring and ignorant.

But lets find something to agree with, that general road user behaviour at pedestrian crossings has got substantially worse over the years.

Gotta be careful on park lane south bound, at some points it's so wide that they will undertake you

You know the funny thing I have given good clearance to cyclists, on numerous occasions, only to have another cyclist overtake between my inside and the original cyclist. Clearly clearance issues disappear when you are in a bit of a hurry?

@jmaccyd - whilst your here, did you receive that TFL flyer about sharing the roads safely with cyclists? If so, what did it say?

Cheers

Deaths attributable to HGVs buses and coaches really don't feature in a discussion of whether I am more likely to die when hit by a cyclist or a taxi driver, so I see no reason to bring that up other than an attempt to change the subject.

Look, describing "a substantial proportion of London's taxi drivers" as "vermin" is not a generalisation to all taxi drivers. You might feel that it's a slight against you even so: well, sorry, but it remains a useful precept for those of us who wish to continue using the roads which that proportion mistakenly believe they have a greater right to, without ending up under their wheels when the red mist descends.

Describing some unspecified proportion of commuting cyclist as "equally appalling" is trivially just as valid, but in the context of the current thread - which relates to riding a bike in a bus lane - the risk they pose is nowhere near as great. If someone is going to be verminous I'd far rather they did it astride a 10kg bicycle than in a 2 tonne TX4. I suspect you would too.

Funny, most of the passengers I pick up think cyclists are vermin. I expect their sick of risking injury for the sheer audacity of crossing on a zebra, walking on a pavement or crossing the road on a green light without 'vermin' cyclists bowling them over.

I find the 'attitude' of SOME London Taxi Drivers toward cyclists appalling, I find the attitude of SOME commuting cyclist equally appalling.
most taxi passengers simply switch to nodding mode as their chauffeur witters on about cyclists, traffic, golf, traffic, the price of flats in Marbella, traffic, roadworks - a fact that the LTDA's finest take full advantage of as they plot the most devious (and expensive) route to the destination.

Clapham Common to Streatham Hill via Clapham South? London City to Streatham via the Rotherhithe Tunnel on a Saturday morning? Do me a favour.................

Have you got figures to show that a roughly equivalent number of pedestrians are killed by cyclists as killed by taxis?

some of us remember the deliberate mowing down of a young surveyor by a taxi near Victoria Station. I remember the intimidation that Susie is subjected to when they don't realise she's with me.
