Hi, does anyone know how long before the caravan goes past in the tour de france that the road gets closed.
We are going to watch it live this year for the first time on the col de madeline and want to be able to get somewhere near the top of the climb ? Any suggestions and helpful hints would be good.

Mountains are often closed the night before to motorised traffic, so the camper vans all turn up the previous evening. The time when you get kicked off and made to walk or stay where you are varies.

The time schedules won't be up for another couple of weeks on the Tour site (which I notice isn't even updated in preparation for 2010) - the caravan does the route about 2 hours before at the start ends 1h30 before the first riders cross the line.
