I have just finished the taxing questions in my self-assessment form for HMRC.

I have tried asking them why they keep sending me the forms. It must be the infinitesimally small chargeable event that I have each year. They seem so interested in such a small tiddly tiny amount, and yet alledgedly write off £45 million or whatever it alledgedly was, for a multi-national tax avoider, alledgedly, perhaps.

My Mum gets a self assessment form every year too - she's purely on pensions and the like and every year she has to dig through all these separate bits of paperwork to add up little amounts, and it does her head in!

I guess, if my little cottage industry takes off, I'll be doing one next year  . So far, I've earned £10 out of it all, cash in hand, no questions asked... :secret:

Now that I can do it on-line, it is, contrary to expectation, much easier. Well, easier, once you have Registered. :addict: They then take their time, about ten days, sending you an umptytwo digit (I kid you not) id macdodah, and a 12 digit password, which you cannot change to something remotely memorable. Further, do not make the mistake of approaching the process via Direct.gov. or whatever. The linky thingy from there to hmrc.gov is alledgedly not reliable, and does not necessarily always recognise the new id and password wot you have just been sent. Does this sound like I speak from experience?

My point is, and yes, there is one, is this: the deadline for on-line uploads is the end of January. Start your registration process in the previous July!!!!

I am making some bread rolls, and doing more tidying this afternoon. Might try and find time to watch the men's cross country skiing. Also need to choose my Fantasy cycling team for the CycleChat mini-league. A busy afternoon, I envisage.

Pots, you could try dunking mince pies in tea, but I think you would end up with a very gloopy sludge at the bottom of the mug. Perhaps you should post them to Ian instead? ;)
The fact that Ian has turned an alarming shade of Smurf recently leads me to believe he may have had one mince pie too many over Christmas :mrpig:
