While I'm not at St Nicks I did stop to pick up a purple one for you which is very mangled now. Nothing like strange brompton lady stopping to pick up a broken, lost umbrella!! Now, how to get it to you...? Post?

Ooh, how kind! Thank you!

I could ask my Manchester agent to arrange to collect, or if you'd prefer to post it, that would be very kind. If you wanted to save postage, the fabric can normally be removed from the frame quite easily, by snipping the fabric where it joins the end of each strut, and then the little threads that hold it to each strut - the pointy end is usually just joined by a push-in or screw-in plug, which is fairly easily removed. Purple is a real treat! Mostly so far they have been black, with one red one and one white and blue polka dot one.

But if you prefer to just post the whole thing, that's fine, you've no doubt got better things to do than gut umbrellas! - I can reimburse you, or bung the appropriate amount in a charity box? I'll PM you address details.

I did some hardcore extreme cleaning at work today. There was a bit of ballustrade that was very dusty and couldn't be reached from the mezzanine floor, because of a cupboard in the way. I thought we'd have to attach a duster to a stick and then I realised I could edge along the outside of the ballustrade instead holding on to the railing. I was only 6 or 7 feet up, I think....

:cuppa:?

Sounds like great fun. Apart from the dusting bit.

I've got time for a quick :cuppa: if the kettle's just boiled?

So, Oli has a mastoid infection, and is in hospital under obs, and on antibiotics. He's apparently making sure all the doctors and nurses know about dinosaurs. One conversation apparently went thus:

Oli: Spinosaurus ate fish. I can run as fast a a Spinosaurus.
Nurse: Oh, so you'd win a race with a Spinosaurus then?
Oli: No. We'd finish together, because I can run as fast as a Spinosaurus, not faster...

That told her then.

What is a mastoid?

It's the bit where your jaw meets your skull, just behind the ear.

Basically, it's an ear infection gone feral - mastoiditis. Apparently it's actually quite rare these days because ear infections tend to be picked up early. He developed a big lump behind his ear, which made his ear stick out at right angles, and it was this that prompted his Mum to take him to A and E. They'd been to the GP because he had earache, but the GP didn't spot it.

It's so rare that the hospital photographer was summonded to take pictures. Oli asked if he was going to be in a book. The photographer said "Possibly!" We always said he would be a model.... I asked if we could all have copies in cardboard frames, like we got copies of his first school photo.^_^

Max spent his 2nd birthday waiting with Mum and Dad at A and E, and since then has spent a lot of time farmed out to friends, while Mum and Dad shuttled back and forth to Southampton (Winchester sent them there). My sister said he seems disappointingly unbothered by this state of affairs, especially once Jaffa Cakes were in the offing.

It's an inner ear infection.
The mastoid is the spongy bit of bone just behind the ear, and the inner ear is all part-and-parcel of it.
