No tea being drunk today?

We collected a hedge in Beryl today, a conifer hedge. She looked like a mobile Grand National fence.

Then we took it to the tip, and watched the big spikey roller JCB thing squash down the green waste skip contents. I want a go on that!

Ah - sound like a job for Cyclemagic. Well the engineering bit. Then you could have a pedal. Green composting/chipping in a green cycling manner

Oh and yes I have those urges for something "unhealthy" from time to time. Usually Salted peanuts (have you seen the calories? ) or some vino plonko

I have a packet of Tyrrells unsalted crisps and some Martini Asti. Will that help?

Some regulars on this thread might remember me writing about Fairy Doors, like this one:

Today at the Resource (recycling) centre, they had a few samples of wooden flooring. Short pieces, approx 10 inches long by five inches wide, complete with ridges as above. Now I wood like to find some small hinges, and a door knocker. I will be on the look out for very small black hinges. What else could they be made out of and then I could use some teeny tiny screws for the hinges. Any suggestions for the handle and the keyhole?

Well - they could be made to measure from wood. By your good self obviously. Or there is a blacksmith near me who would make something from a sketch.

I have tried to work out the maximum size for the hinges, without it looking too silly. I have a large (and sort of sorted collection of tiddly metal and plastic bits. It does not need to hinge as such, I have seen them in gardens as pretend doors for small animals or fairies. The sample of wood cost the princely sum of ten pence, I expect your blacksmith would be charging for his skills. ;)

Wot, the unsalted crisps or the Asti? You could sprinkle some sea salt on them if you like.

Both

As for the blacksmith - I fear you are correct.

So make up some pretend things from bits of wood and "distress" and paint convincingly. The door handle could be a cupboard handle - you know one of those little (usually round) jobs you can get from DIY places.

I managed to find door furniture for doll's house doors, but they are too small, and would not survive long out in the elements. The ones in the picture are ones you can buy but they are about £15 for two plus postage. :headshake:

Well a bit of broom handle cut off and shaped with chisel/sandpaper might do???

Or if broom handle is too big - some dowelling??????????

I have a ginormous collection of odd buttons, there may be a large one that is suitable. The inhabitant may have to do without a door knocker. ;)
Door knocker - old key ring? Hollowed/drilled out bit of sawn off broom handle/dowelling.

I likes wood work. Indeed when I gets my garage cleared ( )I will unearth the wood turning lathe in there and get on and make stuff like what we is discussing (maybe  ). The problem is the when in that statement

For a doorknob, you could probably find a wooden bead the right size. A knocker might be made (depending on how big the circular part needs to be) from rings sold to make jewelry, or keyring rings, held to the door with a small staple (the hoop sort, not the paperclipping sort). A visit to a craft or bead shop should throw up some possibilities.

Or depending on the size of the door, and your budget, a doll's house supplier, for actual knobs, knockers and so on... (oooo er!)

For the perfect finishing touch, you'll need a tiny bootscraper outside.

That ought to be possible cut out of drinks can metal, two ends and a middle bit, slotted together and painted black.

oh dear, the sort of very silly thing I could waste hours on....!

Old key ring, yes, I think I have some of those. I might even have one of those weeny teeny keys about half an inch long, which could be glued in place. I will keep an eye out next week, for some more ickle doors.
