Well have just failed to produce 160 lettuce seedlings on my fifth attempt. This time something bit the tops off them. Project is due in at the beginning of March. It takes four weeks for seed to reach the five true leaf stage, which will take me into February. I need to run the trial for 28 days to collect results and then do dry matter tests. I think my dissertation is now dead in the water, as I don't have the time to sow more seeds and bring them on.

Plus with Christmas and my mum being on her last legs, I just don't know what to do. Oh well, sorry for bringing the tea thread down with my problems.

Don't be sorry. We're all here to cheer each other up. I can't think of anything particularly useful to say, except, 'Something will work out'. Have the very best Christmas you can, and make the best of the time you have. Better some time, however hard, than none.

<personal note> Riley would have said something funny about voles. Just think of that.

I am starting to feel better I think.
Fancy a :cuppa: and a cake.
Yay!

I feel a bit odd though. Sort of fuzzy headed, and a bit disconnected, and very tired. Thirsty too. I don't know what's wrong with me, I mean I had lots to drink this evening. Mulled wine, home brew wine (two sorts), and some homemade cider. Plus plenty of crisps and cocktail biscuits. Very odd, I don't know what's wrong with me.

Plus, I have a very funny cake picture to post, just as soon as I find my card reader.

We found a lot of old recipe cards in the recycling. From 1966, obviously a set that was collected over months. Lots of Technicolor or B/W photos of 'exotic' dishes. Including 'Roman Candle' cakes...

Um, is it me, or is that a bit.... phallic?

BTW, the photo credits were brilliant. One pic of a pasta dish was credited to the British Macaroni Council, and another of a dessert, to the California Prune Association. I think this country would still be great if we still had a British Macaroni Council.

(the cake, btw, is a swiss roll, upended in a peach half).
