There is some spare, but it's for Daddy when he gets home from work.

I did not know about cutting them completely back in winter. I have some very large potentillas in my garden. As they are so easy to look after, I thought I would try some cuttings. I also have some young buddleia plants. Two are the Black Knight, ie very deep purple, and one is called something like Lindyanna. It is about to flower, and looks like it might be a pale lilac or even a pink.

My cuttings of Cotinus coggygria (Golden Smoke bush) are still alive but do not seem to be growing. I am also growing some Bottle brush plants from cuttings. I have much more success with cuttings than with growing plants from seeds.

It only recommends cutting them back if you wont to stop them running wild. So don't go knocking them back if you love them the way they are.

Thank you for that advice. One of them looks a bit sort of straggley, and could do with tidying up a bit. The others seem to keep a good round shape. They flower for a long time.
