She's very naughty. Must be all that talk of doughnuts earlier.

The rather vague forecast for the UK for the second half of the month:

The signal for rain and snowfall amounts during this period shows a high degree of uncertainty, however, on balance, slightly drier conditions compared to average are favoured for most of the UK. Even though there is a drier-than-average signal for much of the UK, where precipitation does occur, there is a greater chance that it will fall as snow compared to normal.

Question - does 2010 count as "normal"?

Ha ha ha, I have got an interview for a Manager/Teaching assistant at a girls school outside Leeds. It will be managing a school farm and helping to teach girls horticulture. It only pays about £10,000 a year, so will have to see if it is suitable. I can see a lot of problems 1) I have never managed a thing ever, so hopefully they will have procedures in place, 2) I will not be able to get to it with public transport, so will have to drive, 3) What will happen if I plant a load of crops and everything goes wrong? 4) What if the kids don't like me and I can't make myself understood.

Worry.

Well done on getting the interview. Good luck with it and stop worrying, Gromit!
It can all be dealt with a step at a time.

1. Managing stuff is ok, you have been doing that all your life, it is just applying it to other peoples work stuff.
2. OK, so you drive, you can still be a member of CC (Car Chat).
3. So long as everything is documented then nothing has gone wrong. You are just showing why farmers have had such a bad year and what the possible causes are.
4. There will always be kids that don't like teachers. Speak slowly, clearly and make sure you know what you are trying to get across to them. If you tell them what you will be teaching them, then teach it to them, then recap what you have just taught them they will understand. Keep it short, 10-15mins of topic, recap, then move onto the next part of the topic.

I did some "work experience" at the local Horticultural College. I was working as a "Teaching support Assistant" iIrc, with students with learning disabilities. The best bit were being involved with looking after the farm animals, goats, pigs, sheep, horses, ponies, llamas etc. They also had a rodent house, with all sorts of mices, and a Insectarium (?) with large spiders, and beetles etc and snakes etc. I much preferred the practical aspect, rather than the computer studies that the student were expected to do.

Long story short, however, there was a lot of politics involved, and the Staff seemed so intent on being "policitally correct" they sometimes lost sight of what was more appropriate for the students. The students had to fit the system rather than the other way around. So I decided that working there was not for me.
