It is in the ground. It was a very tall plant until the winter of two years ago that seemed to kill it off. It was cut down to ground level, and in the spring, I was surprised and :wahhey: to see new shoots coming up. I was told that it was not only the extreme cold, about minus 20 here for a week or more, but the lack of water that killed it.

It is now back to nearly it's previous height, but has not yet flowered. I do not know exactly which bottle brush plant it is, but the flowers are a lovely shade of darkish red, rather than the pinky red that some of them are.

I "lost" several other plants in that severe winter, but that was the one I was most unhappy about losing.

I think the weeks would be dormant in the winter, and spring into life when it warms up.

Yes :cuppa: thank you, and I have a Snickers bar to go with it. I have a requirement for a Snickers bar, having just had a very long, very confusing conversation with my Mother.

Have you applied to be an organic farmer yet, Gromit? I am very tempted but I can't promise the time at the moment.

:hello: I haven't. I think with it being based in the Manchester area it would be a bit to far to get there everyday. Plus there is an area of land over here in Bishopthorpe for rent if I wished to start my own veg production business.

I was talking to Pete about it the other day and thinking about the lady who runs Goodness here in York. She looks really tired every time I see her, she gets no time to herself and with the weather last year, it made it twice as hard to produce any decent vegetables.

I'm hoping that Fera or a local glasshouse grower will wont to take on a trainee. I would love to try and get into the research/ trials part of horticulture. I really need to get into gear and start putting out some prospective letters to employers.

I did pass on the email Arch sent to my sisters husband to see if he was interested but don't think he bothered to read it.

That's a shame, it looks like a good course, especially as it is free and seemed right up your street. If you changed your mind I have guest rooms!

Following on from my wol on the barn photo a couple of days ago, here she is again looking particularly glamorous against a snowy sunset this afternoon:

Ah, right! I saw on Twitter last night that there'd been a derailment, thought it would be sorted by now. Tram isn't a problem....

:cuppa:
It would seem to have happened right on the set of points that cross all the west bound routes and so new points and track need to be made. In the meantime there are lots of delays. I thought it would be sorted but may well run into next weekend too.
