I got a[n unwanted] Kindle for my birthday last year and finally tried it out during the Christmas break.

The books aren't cheap unless you go for useless ones, and why would I do that! ...discovered you can download the first few chapters, as free samples, of any book but Amazon have blocked me from downloading any more! Ones out of copyright are free but I can only take so many 'classics' at a time.... never did like Dickens' formula-serialised stories.

Besides I still prefer holding a real book, and they're all free from the library.

Oh, NT and I were wondering something about Kindles at the weekend. Can you alter the font size, so that you get more pages in bigger type? Without any extra scrolling from side to side or up and down? It struck me that that would be a very useful feature for anyone with poor eyesight.

Otherwise, I don't especially hanker after one, although I guess it's nice to have any size book fit into the same small package.

Right, I braved the 'orrible weather and got my shopping. :cuppa: and a Diesel Biscuit, and waiting for Life on Earth to come on BBC2.

If you go here -> CLICK ME you can sign up for a daily email of all the books that are free for the kindle that day.

Most of the books I buy for the kindle are not available as printed books and a lot of them only cost between £2 - £5 and I have found some really good ones. I tend to stick to them and only buy the ones that come out in wh smiths etc when the price drops after a year or so.

I read a kindle book someone on here had written about the LEL and it was only a few pence but I enjoyed it and if it wasnt for the kindle they probably would have never written it.

I have just put my kindle on ebay as I now use the kindle app on my phone and tablet instead.
