When had my blood test this morning, I was very pleased that the nurse got the needle into the vein at her first attempt. Apparently I have thin veins, and some nurses take lots of goes to get a blood sample, and I end up with a very bruised arm.
Nothing better than a game of hunt the vein. Was once in A&E and from the next door cubicle overheard the patient (a former heroin user, according to the loud-mouthed doctor ) offering - after several attempts to find a vein - to take over and get his own bloods.

Thank you for asking Rocky, it is a fairly routine blood test, something to do with my age.

The last time I was in a Casualty Unit (with my Mother last March, when she broke her collarbone) there were more Police than patients. Each patient brought in by the Police had four Police Persons with them. I lost count after 12 Police Persons

Before you ask, no this was not 3am, it was 3pm.

A couple of years ago, Mrs R undertook a research project looking at how A&E units used the NHS electronic health record. This involved her spending a lot of time in A&E. She reckoned that some people used hospitals as an extension of their social life. For every patient that came in for treatment on a Friday night, there would also be four or five of their friends......all usually very tipsy.

Before the invention of 24 hour petrol stations when me and my mates got a bit peckish in the small hours of the morning, as you do ;) we used to go and use the vending machines at the hospital as it was the only place open.

Two baths reallocated to their correct places now.
Just one left to relocate into the house but that will wait until I get to rework my folk's bathroom. That could be a while off.

Having got my half brother's offer of assistance we only managed to get the bath up one flight of stairs to the first landing, and we had to move the tractor to get it that far. I ended up calling for my friend to help it the rest of the way this evening.

Right, time for a :cuppa: and a rest to see if my back still works properly!:B)

I am getting on well with my half brother, which is good. My niece has an Aussie accent!

It must seem strange having your family live with you, NT. Are they staying with you for long?
They are here for a week.
My half brother I don't know very well, but I guess better then the other relatives I have as he is the least imposing of his faith. He is a bit too touchy feelly for my liking but we talk well.
I suppose I am actively trying to 'do my best' to be accommodating and friendly and to 'give them the benefit of the doubt' in all the family politics.

I have found out that his reason for being here is for a training session with someone who should have been nearer to hand but has since moved to the UK so I feel less bad about getting him to help move the baths around.
Odd having a sensible teenage girl about the house. The last one, my God-daughter, was anything but sensible.

We had what seemed at the time, mid 70's, an hours of darkness burger van. Never saw it arrive or leave, but i wasnt there during daylight hours, but was always there when it was dark. Many a stumble trip hicup visits to that van on a friday and saturday night after consuming a belly full of beer, only to wake the next morning with the remnants stuck to y'bedroom carpet. And there always seemed to be a couple of guys, stone cold sober, deep in meaningful conversation, standing off to one side of the van, eyeing every punter with suspision. Ahhh memories !
