I'm not a particularly happy bunny. I went out for my ride this morning. The , the wind was behind me. God was in his heaven and all was right with the world. I stopped at some traffic lights after 7 miles and my rear wheel went ping and then ping again. I looked down to see two broken spokes and a wheel that didn't want turn round as it was shaped a bit like a wonky banana.

Tell me that it's nothing to do with my weight. 13st is not too heavy for a 36 spoke wheel.........grrrrrr

Nowt to do with your weight. I'll see your 13 stone on 36 spokes and raise you 18 stone on 24 spokes.
Not me, I hasten to add.
You just need a decent wheel.

I'm on a 20 spoke rear wheel and have never had a problem with breakages, and it's a factory built not handbuilt

Some are but some (mine for example) aren't

I accidentally posted before I'd finished, and have only just noticed.
They're strong in tension in a well built wheel. If there's a few loose ones, the spoke head ends up moving about in the hub and then snaps off.
