I spent the last 5-6 years of my career teaching full time and the time taking classes was like a holiday - there was just so much work behind the scenes. That may have been the nature of the subjects I was teaching, but few people saw the amount of effort involved overall.

Could explain why they want as many extra days off as possible. Hang around with their old school mates!

So what has changed now that requires an extra training day ever holiday a week or more in length?
Same subjects, in many cases being taught. How many ways are there to teach a class of kids to write their name?

Nearest private school has no TTD's and fewer holidays for the kids as well.

I don't know the specific details and I don't guess at things (fools game).

However, there was a hell of a lot of meddling by the powers that be in my day - so much so that to keep to 'new' rules work often had to be binned and done again at a moments notice. In my last days at work I received a call from a woman who taught the same subjects as me in another establishment and was at the point of just giving up and having a cry because of that sort of thing.

One teacher at the school has put my 16 year old grand daughter in for the wrong level exam and apparently it can't be changed now. This is her future we are talking about and the teachers can't get it right, even though the head of that subject recommended the much higher tier.
