A very late start to the day.

The cats have now realised it is much warmer, and spending lots of time outdoors. The builders up the road have finished the conservatory, and peace and quiet has now returned to this quiet part of peaceful Worcestershire.

More sunshine :sun:

Hello everyone! I'm on the train again, so might have to post more ho t bu sts.

Aw, Oli came down to the station with his mum to see me off, and they blew kisses as the train pulled out.

I'll miss them, but I will be pleased not to be jumped on awake at 6.30am....

I'll be back in a month for the baptism, so that'll be nice.

Now just wait for the next signal pocket to hit post....

I've just taken my friend's three year old to the playground. He carefully inspected the bike trailer before getting in it, but told me that I am "very good at cycling" and was fascinated by the trio of young men we met outside the co-op, all in lycra and wotnot, all of whom were extremely friendly and didn't mind their young admirer asking why they were looking at their map and why they didn't know where they were going

How cool!

There's something amazing about the ability of a mature three year old to suck in information, and re-process it all. The funniest thing is when I'll explain something to him and he'll immediately pass the knowledge on to Mum, even if she was sitting there listening to me explain. Oli is having a map phase - everything he draws is a map (even if it's actually a picture). We've done sea maps, city maps, food maps, space maps... I found some Fuzzy Felt in a charity shop and took them down, and saved them to give him today, and he took to it straight away, making up scenes - it's good because it allows him to build up shapes that he isn't confident to draw.

Trouble is, he comes across as so grown up, you forget that he's still only very little, and not always open to reasoning. The tantrums still happen... Max looks on, all smug, but he'll be the same in a year or so.

My sister is a briiliant Mum, but I don't know how on earth she does it day in day out. I'm shattered!

There's nothing worse than an intelligent toddler. I view him as a two-legged version of my Labrador, which seems to work (lots of exercise and food to bride/reward), but I don't know how parents cope.

PS - I'll try maps next time I babysit. Sounds like a great idea!

It's a good way to collaborate on a drawing. Oli does carparks (circles), or buildings (square-ish), or the sky or the sea, or anything that can be rendered in scribble, and then tells us what needs to be drawn in the sort of detail he can't manage yet. He always manages to draw the smallest space to contain the most number of intricately detailed items.

My proudest moment was showing him how to draw a simple bird in the sky (you know, the two curved lines meeting in a sort of v shape) and watching him copy with great concentration, before adding a beak all on his own.

Also, he did a picture of me. I'll post it once I'm home.

I can't quite believe it, he goes to 'big school' in September. Nearly 4 already!

Afternoons!!

I have been fettling some SPDs onto the singlespeeder, and some cleats onto a set of Lidl's finest cycling shoes.
I *plan* to ride to Cambridge tomorrow.
The hills will be a challenge.
I can use any gear I like as long as it's 63".
