I tend to concentrate on European ones, with a few South American ones for good measure. They also tend to be ones that are tall and round, as opposed to square and short. I suppose, I am very politely trying to say "no".

NT, do you mean that you cannot find a sticky label to put on the side. Then you could write on the label, "Sprockets and Flanges of unknown Origin" or other similarly useful nomenclature.

My favourite is something I heard on the radio - someone said their granny was a frugal soul and a hoarder, and had a box labelled "Pieces of string too short to be useful".

That'll be me one day...

I think it looks like a very good tin for keeping something like Lego in. When I was a kid, many of our toys were kept in tins like that, that had held bicsuit assortments - we had one of farm animals, one of dolls' house bits and pieces, one of Lego, one of my Action Man kit, one of my sister's Sindy clothes, one for Playmobil, one for Matchbox cars etc. Some had tighter fitting lids than others - these all seemed to be the ones with the large quantities of small items in, so that the lid came off suddenly when pulled at, spraying Lego bricks or similar across the floor.

Our felt pens were in a hinged lidded tin, which had jolly drawings of various animals, driving vintage cars - the cars, I remember, were labelled, but not the animals.

The other thing we had was a set of Galt wooden building bricks, which had come in a special duffle bag for carrying. The inside was lined with a sort of rubber for durability, but over the years it perished, so that every time you tipped the bricks out, a shower of little rubber bits came out too.

Happy Days. Gosh, I'm coming over all nostalgic.

Oh dear! Pussy cat Leo is suffering in the heat. He is usually ok until it has been warm for a few weeks, then he goes "off colour". If you know cats, you will know what I mean. He has just decided to go to sleep in the bathroom.

I think I had better encourage him to have some more water, and go outside where it will be cooler.

I use plastic tubs that are not locally recyclable for storing things in, better then them going into land fill. If it can be recycled then I will do that with it unless I can weigh it in for money.

On that thought what would be the value of gold in an average 'man size' gold ring, wedding band type proportions?

I buy Laundry "pouches" (aks laundry liquid in dissolving plasticky whatsits) which very conveniently arrive in clear plastic boxes, about 8" by 6" by 4". It is surprising how many uses I can find for boxes of that size. The "gardening" cupboard in the garage, has labels on the boxes "hose pipe bits", Grass seed, plant ties etc etc.

Morning (evening to rikki) :hello:

It's not just me that likes old tins. Phew! I daren't look on eBay for any. Dangerous territory, that.

I use old marg tubs when I cook up batches of stew or soup etc. The contents of 1 tub fits into my favourite bowl perfectly. I label those very carefully to avoid incidents like defrosting soup instead of chilli
