I was sowing some seeds. Cornflowers and Godetias, to get them off to an early start next year. Also took some hardwood cuttings of Cotinus (purple smokebush), and scarified the lawn. That it is S C A R I F I E D, not scaryfied, part of the lawn.

My neighbours do think it funny (then again so does the wife) that I do get on all fours to remove any weeds from the lawn. And am happy just to sit there and handpull moss for an hour.....I love my lawn..it is weed free..

I was surprised how much moss I scarified this afternoon. I decided to start with the worst areas, where the moss has died and gone black. When I think we will get some rain, I will put more grass seed on the lawn. I like gardening, but not for hours on end.

Just mind that young Henry does not copy you, and pull out all the plants.

He's already started... he thinks pulling up the grass is hilarious

I know.. I had to distract him today by getting the bubble maker out to let him run himself ragged chasing the bubbles.

On another note, my gardener told me that most people cut their lawns too short and that's why the moss takes a hold. If you have the cut a little longer leaving the grass longer, moss doesn't take as much hold.

Blimey, lucky you.
When we bought this house 5 years ago, it was off a retired couple and all they seemed to do was look after the garden. A typical retired persons garden, ie everything in it's place... so I have had to learn over the years how to look after it. But I do have a gardener who comes in 4 times a year to sort things out that I have fekked up..
