an Audax bike needs to be comfortable, not a racing position, , have mudguards and maybe the option for a rear rack. Basically a bike that you can ride long distance as comfortably as is possible.

I'm going to ask the obvious, why mudguards?
I've got a bike I'm happy to do miles on (when Hissing Sid isn't around), I've got a pannier rack fitted..a front crudcatcher on the downbar thing but I cannot fit a mudguard between my pannier rack and back tyre....

A proper rear guard stops you getting a brown stripe from the crack of your arse all the way up to your neck.
