Twice for 6 month tours (post conflict/war).

Odd place.

Winter by the sound of it for at least one tour?
Nothing to do except duties I suppose, then be bored till next on duty?
Very few locals and I don't suppose you would really have anything to do with them. It actually appears an interesting place if you could go there for a few days in their summer, when it would probably still be freezing and blowing a gale

The sea trout fishing is amazing but a trip is well out my price range....

Yeah, wasn't all that terrible really.

24 hour on 24 off shift pattern though so just work, sleep, gym, drink, sleep, work on repeat.

No trees, no dogs - except Police Dogs & farm dogs you never see.
No buses, all fruit flown in from South America.

Minefields still wired off.

No fresh milk, some sought of weird yaks milk rubbish.

No women, about 25/1 ratio men to womenfolk.

4 blokes to a room.

Buildings on stilts.

Locals mostly all related & overheard an odd converstion about a weird relationship down at Port Stanley

Did you call them Bennies?

I worked with a bloke who used to service ground radar and he told me about how kids would come up to you and touch your pants as if it was normal to them.

He also told me about Russian roulette in the minefields with penguins.
