Odd size drive!I just installed a 4.54TB hard disk on my PC, so now have heaps of backup space.![]()
It's advertised as 5TB. When I use a Cygwin command-line to run 'df' (Linux geeks will know what this means), the total KB for this hard disk is shown as: 4883762384. If you divide that by 1024 three times, you get about 4.54, which is the size in computer terms (where KB=1024 bytes, MB=1024*1024 bytes, etc.). However, manufacturers love to mislead consumers by using different multipliers to derive inflated figures. So what they do is say that the above figure of 4883762384 is so close to 5 billion bytes it makes no difference, really.Odd size drive!

I just did a write test, writing a 1000MB file to the new hard disk (using the Linux 'dd' command, being geeky again), and it wrote at about 130MB/sec, which is good considering that the general maximum for USB 3.0 hard disks (which this one is) is typically about 100MB/sec.![]()
TB. I mistyped the previous post.GB or TB?
Now edited!!!TB. I mistyped the previous post.
Not that much then!Four: 2TB internal, 1TB + 2TB + 5TB external. The two smaller external drives are almost full, and the internal drive is about 25% used.
Yes, I never went though.Am I first up?
A chilly oneCurrently minus 3 and nice clear sky. Too cold for two wheels so two legs and four paws will have to do.
Will he be making you a cuppa as well then?Morning @Mo1959 & @classic33 .
today is not Mother's Day in this household, it's my husband's birthday or 'My Day' as he is putting it. He's downstairs making coffee!
Yep! And my breakfast, dinner, tea...Will he be making you a cuppa as well then?
