Sounds like the question "How can you be homesick for a place you've never lived?" but it can be done. The Welsh even have a word for it: Hiraeth.

That's a longing for something/somewhere that no longer exists.

Not entirely, some translations say it could exist but you can't get there, or may never have existed.
I exist!!
