Time for an afternoon cuppa for me. Just got back from a meeting with the Sackville Refugee Response Coalition - which I will now be a part of, as a member of their Communications team. It feels good to be a part of something that makes a difference in the lives of others. Salaam, neighbour.

I like a bit of steam! (innuendo intended @stephec). When I was a kid our council house backed onto marshland and beyond that the railway line - along which the Puffing Billy (as we dubbed it) used to go! We always rushed out in the garden to watch it pass. I must look up what it was really called. I'm talking about Portsmouth (and we lived in Farlington). I think it went from Hayling Island into Portsmouth.

Good afternoon from grey Maidstone. Outside I have a plague of flies. No idea why. They are all settling on the table on the patio (which is covered in sacks of bark and potting compost) - nothing for them to eat there. Also there is a bee colony in eves of the bathroom extension. And... my daughter noticed that we also have a colony of Funnel Web spiders under the same eves. Its getting quite creepy venturing out there.

I've just googled the steam train I used to watch. It was called the Hayling Billy and ceased to run in 1963, when I would have been (gulp) 12. There is a utube of its last journey, (with rather irritating music):

What a lovely old train. I would have preferred to have listened to the mechanical puffing noises though. Maybe it was a silent movie, being so long ago!?
