If the windows were bad, the roof in the same room may need pre-treating prior to painting.

Don't "site supervisors" have the job of telling you you're not working fast enough.

The way you're going there'll be no new neighbours to meet once you move.
If our sale goes through I'll bring a professional in for the decorating. No matter who does the work I think I'll be using this on walls/ceilings/skirting etc

I know it's hard to cover over, from spending two days cleaning then painting a room affected by smoke.

You sound as though you're starting to doubt what you've done.

No, not at all. I knew what I would be doing and I’m pleased with the way it went today. It’s just hard work and the lockdown situation will cause delays but I learned what worked best as we went along today so tomorrow may be easier. It will be interesting to see where we are by next weekend as I should be able to move some boxes in by then.

I think we’ll be very happy and working away in the place means we get to know it very well.

Elbow grease works fairly well, and it's cheap!

You'll get there. Of that I have no doubt. And I'll say before the 23rd of next month.

G'day all :hello:

Met another neighbour today - the lady next door to the right of us. Another lovely person and she presented us with a lovely tin of M&S Belgian chocolate selection biscuits:hungry::hungry:

On a positive note, I did the vinegar wipe test on the windows around the house and it turns out that only the small bedroom I cleaned yesterday and the kitchen had the tell tale sign of tar/nicotine, with some sign just outside the kitchen door into the hall. I'll just get a load of sugar soap in so that I can do a wipe down in the big bedrooms etc. The kitchen will be completely refurbed so I won't worry about that. I started in the small bedroom yesterday and found that tough but it looks like that is the worst section now done(prior to redecoration in due course. Ordinary paints should be good enough elsewhere and I'm pleased with that. One of the neighbours did say that she had understood the old lady had only smoked in the kitchen and it looks like it was just there and the small bedroom.

Going back over for a couple of hours now.

Owdo

Hands looking like prunes yet?

Don't leave the tin of biscuits in the hands of the other person alone. Place in sight of both parties, to avoid the tin getting lighter.

My hands were getting rough until I discovered 'rubber gloves' - great invention. I'm sure the times when I don't have them on will still manage to make a mess of the old hands though.

The lounge has a big feature triple window and I found the venetian blinds a hard heave to get them up this evening. Also, there is an old fireplace in the lounge that hasn't been used in a while and just has some logs and cones in it as a feature. Obviously the old lady couldn't manage the blinds and wasn't able to clean the inside of the windows - the soot that came off them was incredible! The other, smaller, windows in the lounge/dining room were obviously more manageable as there was just a little bit of grime on them. The windows in every part of the house are very big so the place will be bathed in light in the summer.

If it's not been lived in for a while, windows are a dust magnet.

Will you be reusing the blinds once you've cleaned them.

Can you have a "real fire" where the house is, or is it now a smokeless zone.
