Well if it was the only room in the house with a radiator that doesn't require bleeding, you should have looked there sooner.

£200 plus for eight plates a "few quid"!
It's an 8 place set so 8 dinner plates, 8 side plates, 8 soup bowls etc - even has the gravy boat and the salt and pepper set as well as big serving dishes for the meat etc. Must be about 40 items(I haven't stopped to count them). I have to say the big serving plates looked very well when cleaned so I can see a collector buying them. As to the value, I'm thinking more along the lines of what I would get for them from a local antique dealer, rather than what a dealer may set as a sale price.

The tiffany style lampshades have cleaned well, and we both like them, so I think we'll put them back up when the electrical fittings have been renewed.

The £200 plus price tag was from an eBay sale.

There was an old chinese style table lamp left behind and it looks like it may also be from the 1950's(old 2 prong plug on it) but I didn't notice any makers name so it may be junk. I'll take that to the local shop to see if it's worth anything as we don't like it.

Does the wire look "out of place/too new" for the lamp?

Shaver socket fitting is easier remove than a standard three pin plug, if you can't grip something very well.

Thirty nine years ago, the old family home was moved out closer to the road. In there were two dinner sets, given as wedding presents to my grandparents. One set, light almost transparent brown-pink, was retrieved and valued at over £700.

General opinion was neither would be worth much, just throw them. They're now in the new house, safe from any dump. Don't know who got the second set, but it wasn't just thrown.

I think it did - but there was so much of it to clean I can't recall. I'll be putting it back in it's cupboard tomorrow so I'll have a check.:okay:
£20, minimum, for both items.

No, it looks original to the lamp.

It's like a tall, square shaped, chinese vase on a dark wood base. The lampshade looks old, like the lamp itself, so the whole unit may be original. Just no makers name on the base - maybe I should look at the 'chinese' part to see if there's a name that's hidden by the pattern. To be honest, it looks like junk to me but then I don't have an eye for such things, and there were other quality looking items in the place when we viewed.

I know the family emptied the place in a hurry to get the sale done so they just seem to have left a few bits and pieces lying around. They had asked if I wanted to go back and pick anything I wanted but I got busy and didn't fancy any of the bigger furniture items as they may have been quality but we don't like the 'old' stuff.

What might have fallen down the back of a settee over the years?

Sweets, false teeth, shotgun!

We never did work out how that last one made it down. But the settee dated from the 1920's, and the house was in the "Banner County".

This is all getting a bit posh for migrants like me...

Ah, back to normal.

Hope nobody sits on your sofa too heavily...
'Ere, less of this migrant lark.
You feel happier flying to and from Africa every year that's up to you.

Define "normal", just so we have a reference point.

T'weren't loaded. House of the nearest neighbour has a government issued* revolver in it somewhere.

Owdo
