Here's to clear skies for tonight's viewing.
Tried going out the back to escape some of the street light, only to have a security light come on next door. No chance of seeing much up there. Best I could make out was a slight tint to the sky overall.
May nip further afield, and higher ground, tonight. See what I can see.
It's a double serving of ads with everything these days.

There you were, the pair of you, just looking up and admiring the view when someone wondered why you were looking up...
I'd say there'll be a few more out tonight looking up.
You'd no bats, but the birds were going nuts just after 4 this morning. The Dawn Chorus was earlier and louder than usual.

An observed Dst at -348 this is now one of the all-time strongest geomagnetic storms of the modern era only rivalled by the Halloween Solar Storms of 2003 *thanks to spaceweather live*

varying forecasts on this evening though.. guess a wait and see.

Apart from one person with 'look at me' lights everywhere, I can see a few stars out the back in the dark..
I just use the app for that too:laugh:

HF blackout as well...
finally worked into DL land...
might try VHF...
we have the holy terror and her mum arriving soon..
severe bag of cats alert, a veritable G10 maelstrom..

You mean they're not what you were watching!!
Having looked at the pictures on Rickshaw Phil's thread, that reddish purple tint visible in many of the pictures was the general colour of the sky. Not as strong to the naked eye though.

Wonder how folk would manage if it knocked the mobile phone networks offline?
Halloween 2003, I'd have been at the highest motorway services in Britain, under the glare of the carpark lights.

I'll wait, not planning on going anywhere else tonight.

He's paranoid that someone might get past and into his garden. First time it's gone on, so I'm assuming it's new to him. Goes along with his camera system now. But it ruins any chance of being away from light sources.
Stargazing app?

She'll be all peace and quiet with her mum there, she'll know!
Can I suggest you don't open the bag?

You still have the scope, or has it long since gone.

From what I've heard, radio blackout might be for a few days yet.

Gone, passed down...
I might get another now..
I have a neighbour who sadly likes their lights too much though..
nothing a 22 could fix

There's another load of charged stuff on its way....lunchtime today it 'hits'
Had a wee look outside late last night but nothing..

At least you didn't just scrap it.
Have stargazing parties in yer garden. Basing it on yer neighbour joining you looking to the heavens the other night.
This one's fond of his cameras as well, ruling the 22 option out.
You've got to wonder why they're afraid of the dark.

No chance of seeing anything lunchtime, too light...
Had a look outside missen last night. Nothing, nada, no chance with the mist closing in and cloud cover.
Maybe tonight...

I got the 'mmmm' look....
I'll borrow my old one back....

Nah, its arrival time they reckon...

almost at double figure contact just now...
tough going though..
about to do my daily garden watch.
might have to get a tripod as I changed mine for a monopod

Maybe she thinks you're after something other than a telescope.
What about a few drawings showing it in yer loft, with a sliding roof section, to convince her. Then you buy a smaller one.

They gone quiet yet?
A possible chance of seeing more tonight then, mist permitting...
Tripod for yer garden watch!
Camera or binoculars?

Camera..

Officially a wet day.

Looks like the first CME to arrive struck a glancing blow..
Still some incoming CMEs to come later today..
Solar wind is up

I had this picture of you in a hide in your garden, notepad and pen to hand.

Dry so far, but thunder reported on the west coast over an hour ago. Not got this far yet.

Does the glancing blow theory explain why the effect was seen so far south.
Radio still out?
Just think if it knocks the mobile networks out. How will folk manage with no way of putting pictures of their food on Facebook or X!!

You really need to get that garden sorted.
Any more that are on a direct course with us you reckon.
Maybe all this energy from the sun is livening him up. Filling him up with extra ions, and then getting them all excited!
Could be foil suit time for him, foil hat at the least.

Contacts into double figures yet?
Following Magnetic North in that forecast.
Read on a news site there's a biggie on the way tonight/tomorrow morning.
