Antonine was just a big ditch.. I'm only a couple of miles from it..
The old Alba didn't have a border..
Just a hotch-potch of tribes.
Quite a bit of Roman history in the nearby area..
Troops were mostly from (todays) Belgian lands..

Took this 5 years ago at Roughcastle Fort

The sun highlights the ditch, to the right, the ground runs down to the canal (the canal follows some parts of the wall route), fort etc to the higher part..
Thought it were built, in parts at least, like Hadrian's wall. Ditch on the northern side to increase the height at very little expense in wall height.
Even back then they pinching stone from walls. Wonder if they ever tried selling it back those building the wall.
Probably left their chariots up on stones as they made off with its wheels...
A bit of Roman history near myself, two roman camps, a Roman road and a few names aling the road giving an indication of it's existence. Parts of it used later on as the pack horse road/route.
Stands out in the pictures well. You ever find owt in the general area of the wall/ditch. Gold Roman brooch, gold coins that sort of thing that you might want to sell?

For my pension? No, all done straight into the bank and the first partial payment isn’t until 21st of the month. It will feel like a nice bonus.
They should have made you go to the post office, providing you could find one in the first place, for the first payment. So they could verify that you were actually you.

Think its a great place....

Cruises, bucket list , the worlds yer oyster.

I saw some clown going on a rant in a forum recently about pensioners this and that etc.
First reply..
Asked 'are you working?'
Do you pay all taxes and NI? The answer back was yes..
the reply..

A fair bit of digging for the soldiers to do..
You could see the idea...
These places will be metal-detected to death..
Quite a few forts along the wall.

I once had Roman denarii but gave them to a family member to take into school....
They built it to suit the contours, it rambled a bit..
Victorian vandalism..
They built this house in the actual ditch

They'd little else at times, and they'd have to stay fit to fight.
Metal detectors wouldn't find pottery though.
They needed somewhere safe to stay, at least from yer midges.

And they never gave it you back!
A bit like Hadrian's wall then.
Can't blame just the Victorians, There'd have been plenty of others before them...
Nice...

Just let a couple of dozen moles loose
Funnily I've been bitten a handful of times by the blighters since moving here..
I was a midge magnet.

I'll try get a better photo of that old mansion at some point..

Just finished watering all the Towers greenery....
never seen everything looking so good and in flower..
I must be getting confident on my cycling, I just ordered another tub of slippy cream....

Well, they were probably in need of somewhere easy to defend.
Why'd you let them loose, you'll have mountains all over yer last patch of grass in no time.
Maybe they, like the smaller midges, like the taste of you. Best be careful from now on. Especially if resting, gazing skywards.
Midge magnet! You moving onto bigger things?

Would that involve a walk?

And now yer sat down admiring all that which you have done, and everything is good...
Slippy cream for the bike or you. These things are important you realise.
