I think the locals have mixed feelings. A lot of them keep and love cats but the 'Greek' attitude to cats is different to the UK/Ireland where ownership is claimed. In Greece/Cyprus cats are considered 'free' and most 'pets' are cats that have just wandered in to a house/hotel etc and stayed. The true feral cats are sometimes seen as vermin because of the numbers but are largely tolerated because they keep rodents and reptiles at bay. Some of the villages cull the cats but then get a rodent/reptile problem and let the cat numbers grow, only to keep repeating the cycle. The big problem is that the Cypriots don't get the cats spayed/neutered so the numbers become a problem. There was a Government programme but the cash was cut when the local economy crashed. However, some private individuals do pay vets to neuter and the tradition is that when a cat is done it has one of its ears clipped so that that can be seen. Overall the island is just full of cats - they are everywhere and when the sun goes down it can be like living in a jungle with the noise of cats confronting each other in the darkness!

Overall, animal cruelty is a bit of a weak point in Cyprus - all animals are involved there. However, I don't know if the problem is any worse than the U.K. as I haven't seen any stats.

Very interesting. But if they are feral they aren't going to get neutered are they... or do you mean the actual pets? Difficult to imagine the situation there, as here we have very few feral cats.

Greetings @Blue
Sounds like you know how to burn the candle at both ends
I was in bed before midnight and had a good 9 hours sleep. I needed it after too many 03:00/03:30 type get ups.
2 days then back to a 03:15 get up on Tuesday. You are lucky being able to enjoy yourself with those hours, glad you are enjoying yourself :okay:
You poor thing! I can't cope unless I get the 8 to 9 hours.

A lot of the ferals get neutered because individuals who are mainly foreign nationals pay for the service. Not as many of the pets get neutered as in the U.K.

The folk who have been on the tea thread for a few years will remember my previous holidays when I helped out a German lady who had turned her villa into a cat sanctuary. It was great fun looking after so many feral cats - even giving them their meds and shots. That's why I got my own shots brought up to date - I used to pick up a few scratches and risked bites from some big toms that were in for neutering! That lady has now moved to Spain and we too live in a different area so I content myself with just feeding about 20 needy types!

Good morning all. :hello:

It's a nice bright day here. It's cold inside but I haven't ventured out yet - it's often warmer outside! Buildings aren't insulated in Cyprus so it's usually colder inside than out. However, the temperatures are still a lot lower than the norm for the time of year and are supposed to stay that way for a few more days.
