Not good though

I hope the big cities in GB never have to get as bad as Belfast etc., during the troubles. We had to endure going through security to get into city centres and then further checks at the door of all major stores. It was a big change to what had been the casual way of living enjoyed before the troubles and still enjoyed in much of life in GB.

There were security checks in some stores after Manchester, with armed police in some of the larger shops throughout the week following.

After last weeks Manchester attack we had armed police wandering round our station for a few days till they dropped the security level from critical last Monday.
I guess we will be back to critical again now. They were a nice bunch of armed lads that had been bussed down from the nuclear facility at Sellafield to provide additional support for the West Mids boys.
They were saying the army had taken their duties on at the nuclear facility.
Doesn't seem an answer to the situation we find ourselves in???

A week, lol. We had to endure decades - some people spent most of their career as searchers. I hope it never gets that bad for you all as it was a right pain, even though it was for all the right reasons!

After last weeks Manchester attack we had armed police wandering round our station for a few days till they dropped the security level from critical last Monday.
I guess we will be back to critical again now. They were a nice bunch of armed lads that had been bussed down from the nuclear facility at Sellafield to provide additional support for the West Mids boys.
They were saying the army had taken their duties on at the nuclear facility.
Doesn't seem an answer to the situation we find ourselves in???

I remember going to a football match at Windsor Park in 1983 and seeing all the barriers to pass through the city centre.

Our police are armed as part of our 'normality'!

They will be training more and more to carry weapons for normal duties, I have no doubt

All town centres were like ghost towns at night from about 6pm onwards back in those days. Life was grim. I doubt many on the GB mainland had any real idea of how bad it was.

Mrs B and I were watching the events unfold last night and saying how similar it was to our experiences as young adults. As Mrs B said last night , you have a nasty problem as it's harder to stop suicide bombers with barriers etc.

It isn't good.

It's so simple, you see it happen in Israel quite often. Drive a car into a bus queue or attack people with a knife. Ok there are a lot of weapons available to the Israelis but normally some damage is done before the attacked is stopped.
It is a similar situation here unfortunately anyone can get hold of a knife or get hold of a car and do damage. I am just glad guns aren't widely available as in America or there could be carnage committed.

They were moved on elsewhere. Got used to them on the streets, having them stood/patrolling at shop checkouts was a new thing.

It's so simple, you see it happen in Israel quite often. Drive a car into a bus queue or attack people with a knife. Ok there are a lot of weapons available to the Israelis but normally some damage is done before the attacked is stopped.

Getting hold of a knife if you're buying is proving harder these days. Then you've to get it out of the packet.
