Good afternoon everyone. My partner has decided he's retiring at the end of August (on his 65th birthday). There was talk of him carrying on working... but he has decided he can't hack it any more. He works shifts in a warehouse and its hard physically - plus an hour's walk each way.

Now... I rather like being on my own when I'm here... well I'm not usually quite alone as youngest son and daughter both live here. But they tend to stay in their rooms. So... I'm thinking I'll find it quite difficult. Plus, a huge drop in income! I'm not trying to dissuade him - that would be unfair. Nevertheless...

Afternoon mb :hello: mabe the company your partner could find him a lighter roll with less hours rather than loose him
They'd let em go nowadays. Cheaper to get a "volunteer" from the jobcentre for a month and not have to pay them!

Depends in the company I suppose, but Iv worked for a few companies who have kept older staff on after retirement, a baker I worked for had a few supervisors in there late 60s and a couple of guys doing follow up orders through the day! My dad worked in electronics he worked till he was 71, there experience is a asset to any company!

...anyway, can't complain. We will have enough money to survive - which many people don't. Also, I get away to stay with my friend every three weeks or so.
He has been talking about doing all those jobs around the house and garden which need doing! I haven't said a word...
