Good morning everyone. Very misty here in Whistable - in fact I can't even see the sea from the sea-view balcony!

Not too much alcohol from the night before?

It has to be said that getting up so early (9 am) was a bit of a shock to me. It was 10 am before I pulled back the curtains and looked out over the balcony at the fog. Admittedly, it seemed rather foggy in the room too... I had a lot of difficulty locating, filling and switching on the kettle for the much needed TEA!
Can do that last part with my eyes shut.
Up, left turn, three steps, door(opens inwards, one step back), two steps, right turn, one step, 13
steps down, one step, right turn, two steps, door(opens outward), four steps, door(opens inwards, one step back), seven steps gets me to the cooker(nine, the wall), left turn. Right hand turns the gas on & lights it, left checks there's enough water in the the kettle. If no, three side steps to the left gets me to the sink. Two means I can just swap hands after turning the tap on, allowing me to get my cup.

Me no like that. Here is a frost related question:

I know this is not a gardening forum, but I have an unexpected cardoon growing very well in a pot outside. I bought it over the internet six months ago and it seemed to be dying after a few weeks. I forgot about it and didn't disturb the pot - and now its sprouting leaves and looking really healthy.

Should I bring it indoors or do I leave it in situ and swaddle it or something?

In October through to mid November you need to blanch the Cardoons by wrapping layers of cardboard or sacking around the stems and tying it up with string leaving the fronds of leaves poking out of the top. This helps to make the stems tender and removes the bitterness before harvesting. 3-4 weeks of blanching is usually enough and then you can cut individual stems for eating or slice the whole plant at its base like a monster head of celery leaving the root to re-sprout in the spring.

For that deduct one step towards the cooker!

When did you last hear of a gas cut though!
If it is being turned off, I can fall back onto camping stoves, single & double burners.

Total failure locally, battery powered radios, bike lights, recharghable batteries kept charged(as well as a supply of cheaper ones to hand) and a solar charger, for leaving in the window.

We will know where to go if the end is nearing
