You could always get the few tools you need and gen up on changing the chain and cassette yourself next time. Just leave the tricky stuff to the experts. If I can do it, anyone can.

I normally do. About two months ago i changed my on brakes & brake cables. I know next to nothing about servicing BBs or wheel hubs and to a lesser extent, gear indexing, though I know its probably fairly easy to learn.

The full service will also true my wheels & strip, clean and lube my drivetrain, part of which needed to be replaced anyway.

It should ride like a new bike after i get it back

Just come home from leaving my Triban at my LBS.

I need a new chain and cassette. I decided to go for a full service after daily commuting and (almost) 2 winters in cold/wet conditions & probably just over 2k miles on the clock, but I dont know how much mileage the previous owner put on the bike while he was training on it. Service costs £60 while parts and labour will cost me about £80.

There goes my christmas bonus
Not a lot done, or is that just 2,000 miles, in the cold & wet conditions?

Used to be two months of commuting that.
