See it as a song sung from the heart and one that brought joy to another.I had to deal with a dementia incident yesterday morning then was sick as a pig all day due to the activities of the night before.
We went out to karaoke at 10pm Xmas Eve and we were there until 4am Xmas Day. It was great.
I had quite a moment on the stage. I don't sing songs like Danny Boy or Fields of Athenry because the themes run too deep with me and they bring me to tears. There was a family from Birmingham at the karaoke who had their 88 year old mother with them for what may be her last foreign trip and they pleaded with me to sing Danny Boy for her. I refused and told them why but they kept pleading so I agreed. A friend, an ex-pat from Cornwall, said he would help me out and proceeded to push me onto the stage, put a mike in one hand and a fistful of tissues in the other. I was actually pleased with the rendition and made in to the last line before the tissues were needed, then it was.
The song got great applause but I suppose I'll never know whether they enjoyed the singing or just the sight of a grown man crying in front of a bar full of people. Maybe a bit of both.![]()
It certainly brought her joy. I sat down beside her afterwards and she leaned over to me to thank me with such a smile on her face. My enjoyment of the whole experience trumped my embarrassment.See it as a song sung from the heart and one that brought joy to another.
I'd say you'd manage. It certainly brought her joy. I sat down beside her afterwards and she leaned over to me to thank me with such a smile on her face. My enjoyment of the whole experience trumped my embarrassment.
Even my Cornish friend was beaming when he put an arm around my shoulders and said that was brilliant and don't worry, it takes a real man to cry. The git has a good sense of humour but he better not bring me a rattle and a dummy this week-end or the next drink I buy for him will be going over his head instead of down his throat.
The Birmingham family will still be here for Friday night so I'm starting to dread anotherif they insist on Fields of Athenry for the old girl.
I think that, due to Mrs B's dementia, my emotional state is just too fragile for those deep running Irish ballads.
Only if you're any good. Or would it make it easier?Does one get a free red nose, ginger wig, giant flashing bow tie and size 30 shoes with that!
Oh Mo !You’re up early! Lol
Early plod long since done. Exceptionally mild here.
Dad is getting brought back up to his local hospital for his final days. Much nearer for us. Should arrive there mid afternoon.
