Good morning, already at work.
Wanted to ride all the way today: usually I ride part of the way and catch the tram for the busy and steep bit. There'sa way around but it also causes practical issues coming back. On the other hand I was late and it was getting into rush hour which meant it would be a bit crowded. Not Tokyo metro standard, but still, standing room only.
Convinced myself that as the tram comes every ten minutes, if it was more than eight minutes away, then I could legitimately cycle in and avoid the crush.
Arrived at the station and checked the board: tram due in two minutes.
Why is it I can never miss a tram when I want to?

Must try harder. You only half wanted to miss it, that's where you went wrong. If you really needed to catch it, you'd have missed it.
