Could you not let him on the radio? Go for the youngest contact made. Okay his Morse code may not be up to scratch, but...
Morning??
Thought that you still had to take a Morse Code test? Young in being only small wouldn't have picked up the basics yet.Morse?
I never sat the Morse test (circa 1989) although I was averaging 14-15 wpm sending and receiving, 12 WPM was a pass, a long story tbh.
I just click on my mouse now LOL
although had a nice chat(QS0) with someone earlier, I had stopped at a high point and the other bloke was on a Fell south of Biggar..
on UHF as well, unusual. 40 miles between us.
After Saturday's milking it, I headed up over Carron Bridge and enjoyed the way up and then down LOL, horrible road surface for about 2 miles though.
A bit windy and wet to finish but enjoyable...
Nah, they revamped the whole system at some point.Thought that you still had to take a Morse Code test? Young in being only small wouldn't have picked up the basics yet.
When you say "just click on a mouse now", is this in place of a Morse key and you're clicking on the letters and not whole words(that'd be cheating).
Why's 40 miles unusual.
Saturday's adventures makes Sunday-monday being quiet easier to understand.
Price aside, I'm wondering if it'd be worthwhile. Taking it to Ireland and listening in, see if there's anyone there.Nah, they revamped the whole system at some point.
Everybody had to pass the RAE exam , 2003 example HERE (pdf)
My 1988 paper isn't available..
Two classes of licence,
A, to achieve you had to do the Morse test and gave you access to HF and up....
B, which gave you access to VHF and upwards (50Mhz upwards)...
Falling numbers, I guess so they brought in three categories,
Foundation, limited power use and most frequencies,
Intermediate, use higher power (to 50 watts) and most frequencies.
Full, 400 watts limit and access to VLF to the Microwave Frequencies
I use 20 max....and have VLF to 70cm (430Mhz) to use...
UHF using handhelds at 40 miles is good although being almost line of sight.
More likely quiet in the rural areas, almost dead in the built up areas here.Price aside, I'm wondering if it'd be worthwhile. Taking it to Ireland and listening in, see if there's anyone there.
I can get a 100 mile line of sight at times over there.
OwdoMorning all

I'd save my pennies....
Grand afternoon too..Owdo
Grand morning in't'it...
Used to be a local club that met at a nearby pub. The club has long gone, the pub flattened 15 years ago.
If it's quiet in rural and almost dead in built up areas, where are they all?
How long were you saving your pennies though!
Morning??
Think it was an increase in the number of younger drinkers (ab)using the pub patrons that finished the local one.Grand afternoon too..
A lot of clubs have gone by the wayside,
internet I think has seen to that, clubs were a social and obviously where you heard any new etc, everything is so accessible nowadays, eg Rounders, I can read any New York newspaper, I can access more than a few radio stations where I can get the information any local fan gets.
I wish I had this growing up LOL,
plus you'd a couple of TV channels so not the choice nowadays..
It was a night out..
the local club here still is active, online and club nets the now but I assume meetings may be in the offing as lockdown subsides, I've spoken to more than a few locals so I'll nip along, I'm not a club person.. but be good to put a face to those I talk to.
save? wish I could
Icom 9700 would be nice, if anyone wants to throw one my way![]()
