I admit it does rather irk me that it is a common assumption nowadays that everyone has a computer or smartphone and knows how to use then. I can think of one or two of admittedly ancients who have neither and quite a few people seem to have non smart phones.
I did mine online but would prefer a paper version.

Yes, I know what you mean. Try as I might, I couldn't get my dad to adapt to modern technology. It's not widely known, but I believe BT are supposedly doing away with normal landline phones and making everyone change to a digital alternative which connects through your router rather than from the normal phone line coming into your house. I think they are going to have to provide some sort of alternative for those who don't have internet.

Safe here until 2028-29, the date BT gave for fibre to replace the existing cable.

First I've heard of the traditional landline going though.

Wasn't it who was in the house at 21:00 hours on a certain date, nearly always a Saturday?

I'm sixty miles from the nearest SAR base on either coast. Doesn't stop them appearing now and again. We've three houses down the valley where they've done away with the cars. The swapped them for helicopters!
Used to get the Dakota flying over, when they had the 40's day in Haworth.

Copters are good money earners for those who now have the SAR franchise..
should have stayed the way it was.

Bristow Air for the UK. It should have stayed with the armed forces though, I'll agree. Think part of the argument was the cost of replacing the then current helicopters. Another being that Bristow Air were already doing the flights to the rigs, with the latest equipment.

In ways. Bristow Air got theirs straight from America. Armed forces were license built copies of the American airframes. Still had/have to be trained by the Royal Navy though.

Mini satellite dishes have been talked about for some years but so far they have not settled on anything realistic. Many places here do not have internet access via the normal routes but have to use wireless technology rather than the cable system.
The aim is to do away with poles and wires but I don't think it has reached any realistic stage yet.

We've a wired in phone, still works if there's a power failure, for emergency medical use.

I'm certain I'm not alone in this, but what happens to these phones. There's some fall alert systems that rely on there being a working landline at all times.
