I've been feeling dizzy lately every time I get up off the sofa quickly. First this was worrying and the first google info I found stated that it meant I had more chance of getting heart disease. Then I refined my googling and it seems this is happening to a lot of cyclists and runners who have been training a lot. I think resting heart rate has been mentioned here recently and it's related to the resting heart rate getting very low when relaxed and not having enough pressure to pump the blood through the brain when you stand up suddenly and it has to work against gravity. It doesn't last long though as the heart responds to the additional pressure required. Must be a few on here training hard so wondering if anyone else is getting this. Apparently some people have blacked out completely in this situation.

I have this problem even now, went to a consultant regarding palpitations and dizzy spells to the point of graying out very close to passing out.
Regarding the dizzy spells he asked about my life style told him i did running and cycling he asked if i drank alot but not alcohol, said yes i do drink a lot coffee and diet drinks, he said a should drink some thing salty i tryed the electrolyte drinks which you can make your self, you buy the powder then add water and it's made a huge difference.
I know if i haven't drink enough of it as the dizzy spells come back, i know its long winded post but you get the back ground.
So it could be that works for me might not be for you.

Ahh, so that's the reason.....I wondered why I occasionally went dizzy just getting up to turn the lights on in the lounge.

All the time after a really hard effort,If I train with the club and do 5 or 6 hours at threshold I can't get up without blacking out. Spoke to the quack he said not a problem, get up more slowly, if you feel it coming on just squat quickly and it stops it (which works).
Incidentally, once rode to the point that I greyed out on the bike, stopped before the lights went right out...I wouldn't recommend that! A bag of jelly babies and a couple of cans of coke cured it.

Just tried the quick Squat and I works a treat

As for greying out, the 24 hour races are good for that. You loose so many minerals that no part of your body works as it should after about 18 hours. Even your favourite food tastes horrible by then.

Anyone else notice Rick pulling a fast one yesterday? :cycle:

Mine certainly wasn't fast, I was trying to keep HR at about 160 and keep something in my legs for a goat stage tomorrow.

Well I figured I could do better so had another shot at it. Apologies Bridgy! Still couldn't beat you Bill!

Managed to get a better start so and managed to hang on with Lars and your ghosts for longer this time. Last time you guys just burnt me out early on. Seems near impossible to draft Lars for some reason. He's back and forwards like a yoyo!!

Well you were a bit too close for comfort. It's good fun putting in a late fast one though, knowing that no one was expecting it and one or two people might even be a little bit miffed. ^_^And it feels strategic.:giggle:
And as for Lars's ghost, the thing is impossible

I did a Moose stage on Friday night (Salamanaca) that has not registered in the classification for the stage. I've since done a Chaingang and another Moose climb and both have shown up. I don't think I did anything different - any ideas?

Yep, noticed through Strava and sent him a message. I reckon he has an even faster time in him . Looks like he will be rested for tomorrow too so we had better watch out:training:
