Anyone done / thinking of doing the Cambridge grand fondo? I started applying yesterday but they wanted £71. Seems a lot to me but maybe they can justify it... Just wondering if there's a cheaper way in (not involving scaling a fence), or if it's worth the money.

Cheers Geoff, just for clarity - start time 8.12 & 30 secs... Which should give me enough time to get ready after my dad taxi duties.

I'm sure Geoff could give you an even later start time if you need a bit more time to get ready :okay:

You can do the Double Devil for £35 mate, cracking value for money.

I actually googled that when you and Bill were discussing it. I thought at the time DD may of stood for ditchling devil, another one I'm tempted by. The double devil looks like a test of character to say the least mate! Unfortunately / very fortunately, I've got a wedding that weekend.

These also look like a test:

and cheap to enter as well!

You get 27 hours to complete the first. 40 hours to complete the second one, which might be needed for some as it totals over 27000ft of climbing

PS I haven't entered them!!

I promised myself this year that I wouldn't pay silly money to enter sportives (with the exception of Velothon Wales, but I'm busy that day so cant do it). Audax's are cheap, but there are compromises such as generally no feed stations, no route markers (you get a route sheet and maybe a GPX route), no broom wagon and no on route support.

I wonder if there might be an easier way? Perhaps I should make someone like Rick or Bill joint admin, and then I could always borrow an account for a few minutes to do admin type things, that can't be done with a free account? Since I never ride it's wouldn't affect any stats.

I also wonder how long you guys will want to keep doing the Handicap leagues as it moves into spring and summer. We may only get another couple of months, then take a break until October/November.

Cheers,

Geoff

Sorry Geoff, I forgot to respond to you about getting involved in the handicap admin. I'd be happy to be added as admin and use my limited skills to help keep things running if you decide to take a break at any point. Setting up leagues and issuing handicaps and so on should be well within my abilities (no frills basically). But I probably couldn't stretch to providing a video of the ride in dropbox for people to watch afterwards. Maybe someone else could assist with that side of things.
Out of interest, does anyone know if the same account can be used on two different computers so that Geoff could be logged into my account as a spectator or doing some admin while I was doing a ride?

Cheers.

Bill

Yikes!

Maybe next year Kipster

I think I could make compromises in time. I have a garmin so could probably bluff my way around a non marked course. The Cambridge one appeals because it's pan flat apparently. And I'd like to get my 1st century under my belt and I thought it might be a good introduction. Having said all that, I think it's very popular / crowded and £70!

No you can't log in from two computers at the same time, it kicks you off. Geoff has my log in now, and he is making me an admin, so look out! But with hindsight, I will probably provide Camlo's log in and then Geoff can watch or do whatever, whilst I am logged in.
It is getting very complicated who I am going to have to be nice to / bribe when it comes to handicaps. Can I just say that you are all looking lovely today, New hairdo?

Was going to do it with my 10y old but it clashes with a weekend when I foolishly agreed to go on a ride where we touch as many castles as we can in a weekend (don't ask).

Have now vaguely agreed to take 10y old, who is desperate to do his first century in May, from York to home in Lincolnshire which is conveniently 100 miles.

I did do the Suffolk Sunrise sportive a couple of years ago that was reasonably flat and very well supported, their feed stations were epic with as much Haribo as you could eat (and it turns out that is quite a lot). Sure I had my entry fee back in gummy bears.

Great to hear that you'll be the new admin Adam. You'll no doubt bring a certain flair to the proceedings and I'm sure we can rely on you to always be fair on your decisions and not pick on anyone no matter what past run ins you've had with them.
