Cravings were sorted by becoming the designated driver. Free non-alcoholic drinks all night, petrol paid for and no hangover the next day.

Friends who aren't supportive aren't true friends. You can either dodge the issue (I'm driving / early start tomorrow / training etc) or be upfront and say you've quitting and ask for their help to avoid the temptation.

I can't drive, so I can't even give them that. But you are right, I think being honest and direct is the best way to handle it.

Love a drink myself, but frequently spend weeks at a time in Saudi so regularly go 6-8 weeks without one. Drink 3-4 nights a week when I'm home, not too heavy but 5-6 pints fri sat and maybe a glass or two of wine thursday and sunday and must be honest I dont feel any better or worse for either having or not having a drink. If however I go off the rails and have enough to cause a hangover life isnt worth living for 2 days so I tend to stop before the red lights tell me too !!

On a diet at the moment so booze is one of the items on my 'not allowed' list.
I've got another 9Kg to loose and then I intend to reacquaint myself with a nice real ale or 2
I've also barred myself from riding my road bike until I hit my target weight as a bit of added incentive (not the best idea I ever had  )

Has anyone else managed this at all?

I have been "off the pop" since the start of January and I feel so much better for it. However, that's not to say that I don't get hugely tempted still.

How do people manage the cravings and also the social pressures? (A lot of my friends have reacted as if I said "I've decided to become a murderer").

Help!

I'm not off the pop, but I've deliberately cut down dramatically - probably halved my consumption overnight. The reasons for this are more financial than anything else, but I if it happens to be better for me then that's not a bad thing. I can't honestly say I feel better for it at all though - the main noticeable effect is that I can't sleep if I go to bed at a sensible time, so if anything I'm more tired in the mornings. I don't want to be in the pub with no beer, so I simply don't go to the pub in the week at all. I find it very difficult to resist going to the off-licence (which is only 500 yards away!) but I've just been toughing it out and banning myself from buying anything with a card - it's very easy to see how much it costs if you are living on the cash in your pocket. Sorry this isn't a more positive post, but I'd kill for a glass of wine or six and I'm counting the days until Agent Hilda's birthday bash, where I intend to get completely langered. Hopefully quite cheaply, as I'll be such a lightweight by then...

I've pretty much knocked it on the head. Pub prices are a turn off!
So far this year I have had 2 pints of lager shandy and a pint of lager top. Twas last Sunday, when I was out with friends for lunch. It's purely a social thing for me and I stopped buying booze for the home, sometime last year. I will have the odd beer, if it takes my fancy but not regularly. Feel much better for it and prefer to spend my modest expendable income on other things, these days,

I haven't officially given up, but I'm not sure when I last had an alcoholic drink. Probably in 2011.

Various reasons why I've not bothered drinking including being a control freak, drinking bores (plenty of them, especially in white collar work), can't be arsed, bloated feeling after lager.

I should probably get rid of all the booze in the house too. Don't really like having it around with a 4 year old.

I don't drink either, not drank alcohol for about 3 years, reasons being, I just prefer other beverages, I would rather drink coffee or cola if out socialising. Also I am an even bigger dickhead when I am pissed!

Possibly in more ways than one.
