That's about the same time as me. NTL were pretty poor before Virgin but Virgin seem to have got their act together. I have 20 meg BB and it's very stable. On the very few occasions I have had to phone customer service I found their Indian call centre staff to be very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable.

A big two thumbs fresh for Virgin Media from me...

Virgin here, originally NTL, and have had about 12 years of nearly hassle free service. Agreed that customer service isn't the best interface, though much better now than under NTL. But I've never had any of the issues that seem to prevail with other providers.

I using BeThere subsidiary of o2 connection is superb CS is good as well even though based in some eastern block. Use BT for home phone. I`m sure I could save money but better the devil you know , Talk Talk can go raffle, they just plain suck. Hell will freeze over before I ever consider joining them.

+1 for BT. People like to be sniffy about them, but I've been with them at work and at home since the internet started, and they've been impeccable throughout. Excellent basic service, great customer service.

I recently switched from Virgin to BT as BT were offering line installation for free, normally £125. Telephoned Virgin to make sure everything was being cancelled and was told that broadband and phone would be disconnected on 10 March but to cancel the TV I would have to ring on that day or be charged more. Customer services could not explain why but said I had no choice. So I rang on 10th March to cancel TV and was told that only my phone was cancelled and that TV and broadband would be cancelled 30 days from 10 March. I argued and argued that this was wrong but of course they had no record of my previous call. Eventually I gave up and accepted I would have to pay more, then sent an email complaint and they reduced the 30 days to the end of the month. Why couldnt the first person have done that? Glad to be shot of them after that.

I use an obsure one called Topletter for broadband - they are crap so don't go there!
They forgot to take my direct debit for a year (I did not notice) and then demanded the money all at once. When I said I was out of work and needed time to pay they immediately passed it to a debt collection agency!

I have now got in the trap of having used my email address via them which I dont want to change so am a bit stuck with them.

My experience with BT (we use their broadband service at work) is that the basic connection is reliable but their ancillaries (most notably email servers, but their dns to a lesser extent) are not reliable enough to depend on. And I don't even bother calling their support line any more, all I get is "try turning everything off and on again"

I'm still to be convinced by the cheaper all in one packages and BT make everything so damn complicated.

I still have a BT line and Zen as my ISP. I'm paying more but I never have an issue, Zen don't throttle and we are big users in our house.
