"I can't walk cos I cut my own legs off with a spoon" Wow! That sounds like quality telly. I missed this - have you got the details? Maybe there'll be a repeat.

My TV is only used for watching DVDs, which I rent through Lovefilm, mainly TV boxsets. This way I get to see most of the stuff I would enjoy without having to endure the horror of the rest. I always feel like I'm making a mistake during Le Tour or events such as the Olympics but for the most part, am perfectly content with the set up. Though the notion of not having a TV is so "out there" for many people that I'm constantly having the "did you see X, Y or Z" conversation with the same people who don't understand why, no matter how many times I explain. Someone even said I could go in and watch her TV while she was a way a few weeks ago. A lovely offer, made with the best intentions, but even so :banghead:

Firstly, forget all TV that is on before 6pm- just pretend it does not exist. Apart from countdown of course.

Each week, buy a radio times - no other tv guide will do- and go through it. Sort out what you want and record it to watch back later.

I sort of agree and there does seem to be about 95% utter rubbish on TV. But there are good programmes out there buried in the otherwise poor lineup on some channels. There was a brilliant docu-drama on Captain Cook , tucked away at 11.35 on BBC4, some repeats of Coast that I missed first few times round and some other bits I have enjoyed.

I really think most people can find a good couple of hours of TV that is decent quality to suit their interests if they search for it.

same here... gave up the TV in 2002 and when i tell people i haven't got a telly, they go "Ohhhhh, you poor thing... I've got a spare one you can have... duddums.... blu blu blu..." or "You must have a telly... how can you not have a telly?" and occasionally, "You're only saying that because you don't buy a license!"

Then a few years ago when my internet connection massively improved and the iplayer and 4od stopped buffering and actually worked, i find myself playing catch up quite a lot. Line of Duty and Inside Number 9 are my current favourites.

I rarely watch TV shows while they are being broadcast. I like to get entire series and watch maybe an entire season of a show in a week, or less. I watch quite a bit of sports sometimes but mostly via computer internet streaming or computer hard drive through my TV or projector. I also watch Movies through my computer too. I don't even remember the last time I watched a TV broadcast while it was actually being broadcast. I have recently watched Lilyhammer and The US version of House of Cards, both seasons of each. I liked both of them. I have several series like that which I watch and enjoy a lot of episodes in a short time. There are some good series out there but watching a series weekly is something I have not done in probably over ten years. I have a feeling I never will again either.

This is what PVRs were invented for!

I record anything that I want to watch so I can watch it when I want to watch, and skip the adverts. If there are bits I don't want to watch e.g. depressing/violent news reports, I can skip those too.

There is a lot of crap on TV, but lots of good stuff too if you look for it.

I skim through the next day's digital guide and set up recordings just before going to bed.

I try to keep a stash of recordings in case there isn't anything good on for a while.

same here for the most part.... but that long wait between episodes of a gripping series adds to the enjoyment... IMO of course

70 stone and dying was on last eve. ! = thrilling.

The other night: an hour to save your life - considering the 'mental' dr (the type of person who goes to uni. decides on a career but has not personal or natural skill towards it) who was treating the person on the side of the road, id rather have been dead, personally ! - that hour seemed to mean: lets see how close we can get this person to death via any degree of drug infusion

Another household where almost everything gets recorded and watched when we want to watch it.

There's not a huge amount we want to look at but there's enough to fill the time available for watching it. Just.
