I have my old faithful that has done many years of good service, but it's always nice looking to see what I could get..... And I spotted the Giant Liv Thrieve... Now my current bike is a Giant Escape 0 probably 2008 model, so this looks fairly similar whilst being a much better colour (in fact my favourite colour:okay:).

Can anyone tell me whether the two frame shapes are similar? I'm hoping for a slightly shorter reach as I don't feel quiet as flexible as I did then, and sometime my medium can feel a little long (not significantly out).

Are there other bikes that would be similar that I should also consider if I let this go any further than dreaming in my head? There wouldn't be any rush into making a snap decision as I've a couple of expensive months coming up.... But it certainly got me thinking about a new bike.

I don't want a boring colour and must have disk brakes, and the ability to have mudguards and panniers.

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
Have a look at the Specialized bikes. I like them as their sizing has always been great for me with a shorter reach.

My wife has a Giant Escape City and a Giant Dash 1 - both 2014 models. She has the same frame size on both bikes. The Dash is basically the same as the Thrive, but without the disc brakes.
She loves both of them on bits, but they are very different beasts. In equine terms, the Escape is a workhorse - the Dash is a thoroughbred.

If it's a thoroughbred does that mean it won't take rack and mudguards?

Go ride one and see

Looks (at least the White a purple one) like it has rack mounts. Disc brakes can add awkwardness with mudguards, get the LBS to fit some

My LBS is very small, and probably won't stock this one, but I might see if I can find it somewhere else to ride. But I would get him to fit the rack and mudguards ... If it takes them.

Not necessarily.
My wifes alkoy Dash 1 will take mudguards and a rack if so desired. Isn't the Thrive 0 a carbon frame? If so, you would need to do further investigation to confirm if it will take mudguards.

Ah drat.... I'm not sure I want carbon.... I sometimes carry lots and lots of paperwork.... 15 kg I remember weighing it once so it needs carrying capacity. And always worried a carbon bike would get knocked when locked up in works cage.
