Only 66 , I thought he was older than that. I remember him with Johnny Morris on one thing and him introducing a new young presenter called Chris Packham

Noooo, are there going to be any decent wildlife presenters left? Oddie doesn't count. Loved watching his programs as a kid.

Sir David just carries on and on.... I dread the day we lose him.

RIP Terry. Another little piece of childhood gone.

I wonder sometimes if this "another piece of childhood gone" thing is unique to a certain generation. Children now have so many channels, DVDs, etc, and I wonder if they will have such a strong attachment to a relatively few people. In my day (god, how old does that make me sound?), TV was something a bit special, the only source of entertainment at home apart from toys and books, with limited periods of suitable programming.

My childhood seemed to revolve around Oliver Postgate, Jonny Morris, Brian Cant and Jonny Ball. We didn't even watch ITV, so I've got an entirely BBC memory.

+1. (I'm only 26 by the way!) I remember him from the really wild show.

Indeed. I grew up with kids tv coming on at 4pm until 6pm weekdays and a few hours on saturday morning on one or two channels.
On my cable tv, young Henry has about a dozen kids channels showing programmes 24 hours a day.

And a couple of his favourites? The original Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo cartoons,

I was sitting with nephew Oli last week, showing him Magic Roundabout and Bagpuss. I was telling him they were my favourites as a child, and he seemed genuinely interested and wanted to know about the characters and said "That's good". Despite it all being a long way from his favoured subjects of dinosaurs and predators.

All because he'd been jumping about the living room with a Slinky, as if powered by a spring. Naturally, this reminded me of Zebedee, so I had to explain.

(Having watched modern kids' TV, I think there's still some good stuff on, and some good presenters. They just aren't.... ours.)

My folks only caved in and got a telly when I was about 10 and we only ever watched BBC. ITV was common.
