It's a bit more complicated than that...
Teenage boys are lousy drivers. They have a nasty habit of showing off to their mates, crashing, and seriously injuring passengers or bystanders. All of which is rather expensive.

That's because the clever statistics underlying the pricing engine show that people who take out TPFT tend to claim more than people who take out Comp. And that, in turn, is because people who take out TPFT tend to be the sort of people who drive more or less carefully. However, once enough people discover pricing anomalies like that the stats will alter and so will the prices.

I'm confused. Do you mean they drive more carefully or less carefully or somewhere in between (neither)?

My own comp premium is £162 which presumably means I am regarded as a lower risk for some reason or other.

Don't forget that there are insurance brokers out there and, under certain circumstances, they can get good deals.

A few months ago the Doris treated me to a mid-life crisis car. I'd got a few quotes in my pocket from online insurers (a few wouldn't insure directly, but passed through to specialist insurers) but asked the dealer for advice. He put me on to a broker who found a quote £100 less than the cheapest online, and that included 2 days worth of track insurance :wahhey: and a few other nice-to-haves.

If you accept that the middleman needs to make his money, they can provide qood value.

I'm confused too. I probably meant something like "more aggressively or less carefully".
