About six weeks ago I headed off to my LBS ( who happen to be a large chain I've dealt with quite a lot) to look at buying a replacement for my hybrid commuter. After a lengthy chat I realised what I wanted would be difficult to get in hybrid form and veered toward cyclocross. I booked a test ride for the Princely sum of £1 on my first choice and, following 10-15 minutes decided to buy. Thankfully after 6 weeks I still love my new ride
Not sure on how other LBS's handle test rides though.
I have had mixed experiences, some have bent over backward`s with no pressure to buy others not interested unless its a cash deal above 2 grand and others pressurising you to buy the bike you`ve just tested.
