Tethering Android phone from a laptop - but in reverse.

I will be in the states for a few days soon, and the place I'm staying in has a broadband connection although it doesn't have wifi.
A friend of mine is taking a laptop, which will plug in to the broadband, so is it possible for me to connect my phone to the internet wirelessly through the laptop?

Not out of the box

If you can configure the laptop's wifi interface to put it into "ad hoc" mode and start internet connection sharing, then you may be able to get a *rooted* android phone to see that network

Ah, Ok, thanks for that.

My phone isn't rooted, and is going to stay that way so I'll shelve (sp? doesn't look right?) that idea.

Just in case anyone cares, apparently this is quite straightforward providing you can configure the laptop to act as a wifi hotspot.

Sadly my pc skills lag even behind my smart phone operating ability, so I'll get Googling...
