If you have a September 2011 Panther tariff, both internet and tethering are included within your data allowance.
I have a 1st Sept 2011 Panther tariff so I guess I should have internet and tethering included.

I shall have to phone Orange and check it out. I probably have to sell my aunty and my sister to Google before it will let me connect...

ETA: Hmmm, it says 6th September... Maybe I can't have tethering after all.

Dont worry I am sure they will find a reason not to let you have it.

Orange are a pain in the arse for this kind of stuff, if they tell you that you cant have it or if they want loads of money tell them you will move to t-mobile that usually gets them to reduce the price

Failing that ring t-mobile and see how much tethering is with them as orange and t-mobile are owned by the same company so you can use the same transmitters anyway and if its cheaper move to them the service will be the same anyway.

One of my customers was with orange and they wanted a Samsung S3, orange wanted some stupid amount of money so I told them to go and see t-mobile who had it on Full Monty for £36 when she went into the T-Mobile shop to switch they rang orange for a MAC code and orange dropped the price down to £25 I think it was while she was on the phone with them and also gave her the phone for free  however further on down the line they suddenly added and extra few quid to the price per month but she still got a good deal.

I know that when I was on a Sim Only deal T-Mobile said I could have tethering for a monthly charge I think it was around £5 but I cant remember.

Apart from the possibility of an increase in traffic, there's no way for them to know as the phone is effectively a router.
Would the network not know what browser and OS had called the data across the network, thus allowing them the option to filter out any request not placed by a mobile?

Three used to also block anything which didn't originate from a phone, I've no idea how they did it, though.

Android has had the ability to have its tethering toggled by the carrier for quite sometime now, while you can connect to the mobile hotspot as NT and I found out you dont get any connection further than that as the carrier blocks it.

You might get around this by rooting the phone and using a tethering App but I dont know if this works anymore as quite a lot of carriers were rumoured to be blocking access to tethering App in Google Play but I have not idea if that was true or not.
