A trip that's turned into a disaster for my friend

Hi,
A Polish friend of mine went back to his home land for a few days during Easter to visit his parents.
He's lived in the UK now for many years and feels it's now his home.
Nothing unusual in that I hear you say, but the cheap few days away visiting his family has somewhat turned into a costly disaster for him.
The day he was due to come back to work there was no sign of him, and a few hours later we got some information his paperwork/visa or whatever where not correct and he wasn't allowed to board the plane in Poland.
I still don't know the details or what the exact issue was, but I do know he was getting it sorted out.A few more days pasted by and "we" at work were commenting about how his cheap trip was now turning into an expensive trip.
The loss of wages, getting another flight at short notice and most probably paying to get his documents in order were all mounting up.
Anyway today we had a message from him and it's taken a turn for the worst. He's finally got his paperwork sorted out and managed to get a flight booked here ,and whilst he was waiting to set off to the airport he thought he would mow his parents lawn for them.
As he was cutting the lawn the mower got clogged up with grass and like a fool he put his hand in it to clear the blockage and for some reason the blades started rotating cutting his hands to ribbons. From what we've heard he's injured himself quite badly and hoping he's ok
What a disastrous Easter break he's had

Former colleague of mine married a Polish girl.(he is Danish). During one of his visits to her family, he came back and told me he was aghast at her dads lawnmower...
Theyre(or at least can be). remarkably inventive, have a way of problem solving.
Her dad was mowing the lawn and the.mower was a heavy duty single phase electric.motor mounted on a home made frame...and the.steel blade was WELDED to the motor shaft, then about 200 yards of electric cable to power it.
He said it'd have taken your arm off if it went wrong

We got stuck in Cyprus when the Icelandic volcano went off.
I was on pay and paid flights but my wife flew.over later to join me, . As the flights got grounded, the cost to us of flight upgrades , hotel costs etc when it all opened back up was around £1k for the two of us
