I was scared enough being cut up by one of their drivers on the A40 by Hangar Lane last week, and I was in the relative safety of my car.

fixed IT for fixed THAT, is that a fix?

ANYway back to Thames Material. I think there's a case for some questions/an inquiry. Though I'd hope it's not escaped the attention of 'the powers that be'.

Thames Materials have a long history of employing drivers with convictions.

"Thames Materials Ltd failed several inspections, the company and its drivers had many convictions. In 2002 the Traffic Commissioner tried to revoke its licence to operate lorries, but this was overturned on appeal."

Thames Materials appear to have strict conditions on employing drivers. Alcoholic or have a drug problem?

Sorry but the above is speculation - an opinion not based on fact. It's embarrasing, ill mannered and no better then Norris, Boris and Dorris puting the world to rights over a cup of tea after the three of them have read the Daily Mail.

I don't think anyone can deny that Thames Materials have a bit of a shoddy reputation for the quality of their management\fleet\drivers.
Lets hope that this attention ensures that this is the last such incident.

I was just discussing the human cost (as in fatalities) directly related to the Olympic Games with a colleague and he asked 'Do you think they will put up a memorial to the lives lost after the games has finished?' - I was a bit lost for words.

Thoughts?

Boris' decision to disband the Commercial Vehicle Education Unit last year looks like an increasingly stupid move. Remember that this unit found 70% of the vehicles they inspected to be defective.

The mayor has claimed that the voluntary scheme for haulage companies, the Freight Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS), provides adequate protection for cyclists and other vulnerable road users.

Boris Johnson said: "The three sergeants and nine constables [of the CVEU] are being directed to other jobs as part of savings in the police budget. That's only happening because we're confident that the freight operators, through the FORS, will implement safety measures."
Of course the problem - which anyone could see coming - is that if a company does not voluntarily subscribe to FORS, they would no longer inspected. And guess what. Thames Materials is not a registered member of FORS.

EDIT - My mistake - the CVEU started running again this April. after being suspended. TfL have stopped funding it. It is now funded internally by the Met Police.
