Just thought I would mention I spotted on my commute two Mountainbike mounted ( Muddy Fox) Police conducting an operation on a junction of the A4 near Burnham Bucks where using the natural filter point of the lights to stop car drivers who hadnt defrosted their front rear or side windows adequately and as such view was obstructed rendering the vehicle unsafe as it posed a danger particularly to cyclists and pedestrians ,

Images were being recorded on mobile phone and fixed penalties issued and the vehicles parked until safe to continue .

Personally I think this sort of operation is fantastic and probably brought about due to the fact they have Police officers who as cyclists understand our needs and dangers .

I'd be in favour of them stopping unsafe cyclists too (RLJers / no lights etc.) just so there's "balance" and the motons can't complain about being targetted unfairly.

+1

(although this +1 is posted in the risk that I will be criticised for not joining the debate)

;)

I live in Maidenhead. After spending 10 minutes defrosting my car this morning, I tried to leave home only to find all the local roads around were stationary. After queuing for 30 minutes and getting about 1/2 mile, I turned off and came to work on the M4.

I was pretty pissed off that the roads were grid-locked but now, I'm happy about it. Trouble is, if that's what was causing the traffic problems, no-one in the queue would still have frosted windows.

Good. I saw a van jump a crossing with pedestrians on it right in front of me once. He obviously hadn't seen the marked police car the other side. I heard the immortal words 'If a cyclist knows to stop......' as I pedalled away giggling to myself.

Every day I cycle through a small part of Maidenhead and every day there is a lot of traffic (and I normally go through at 09:00, not even the worst of the traffic probably). I once cycled through the whole town between two lanes of non-moving traffic. Beautiful moments, those.

Dont be so Naive

The police have to cut their spending by 5 billion £££'s over the next 3 years so you can expect alot more of these Taxes i mean on the spot fines to increase the revenue that they are going to lose from central Government

I wish I had seen them this morning, I must have missed them but I would have had a good chuckle. Having said that, if it gets much colder I will be having to defrost my eyes before setting out.

Shame they aren't around all the time really, although actually that part of the A4 is quite safe and enjoyable I think.

Excellent, another local.

I'm usually through town (going from Bray towards Cliveden) by about 8:15, but, just in case I'm late, anything that stands out in your clothing so I can give a wave?

And who do the fines get paid to? HMRC, or the police?

Sorry, you lost me, they are cutting their spending so they need more money? Where are they going to keep it all, Iceland?

Or are you advocating increasing their spending and doing it from 'proper' taxation (income tax?).

Or do you work for the Daily Mail?

Or all three?
