Every time I watch the TdF, I am pleased to be reminded what a beautiful, vast and varied country France is: its countless castles, rivers, hills and mountains and huge amount of forest areas. I left my country 48 years ago now and forget sometimes what I have left behind, so thank you for the TdF for reminding me.

Are you French originally, Mr G?

I do like France, and a fair few Coppers retire there.

A good chum of mine retired to the Loire valley region. He bought a cottage close to an English themed pub run by an ex-pat, so hes happy.

I understood Mr G had lived there, but didn't know if he was actually francaise himself?

Provence is my favourite place in the world, and my wife's too. It is paradise to me. The market , at weekends, at Iles sur la Sorgue, is absolutely fabulous. In the evenings, I love the sound of crickets and the smell of lavender in the fields. It takes me right back to my childhood when holidaying there with my parents in a little village ( then) called Gargas in the Vaucluse area. Your son is a lucky man.

I love cycling in France. Done the first day's ride of a week long tour in Normandy.

Quiet roads, great countryside and quaint villages. J'adore.

Yes I am. I was born in Orleans, on the river Loire, and was brought up there. My brothers still live there. I left France after doing my military service in 1970, to marry an English girl and been here ever since.

We've been to Orleans quite a few times, we really like it. In fact our current stove top coffee pot - mokka pot really I guess - was purchased in the indoor market there a couple of years ago. Use it everyday. Bit of random info, but there you go!
