Doubtful the right person will see this post but worth a shot

Did 30miles tonight on the giant toughroad - Walney island, up the coastal road to ulverston and back.

On the way back my rear light failed and I didn't have a spare, not too long after it went another cyclist caught me up and offered to ride behind me back into town

So thanks pal whoever you are

Should be easy enough to identify; there can't be many riders of upright trikes in that neck of the woods - or did you mean (s)he was from Barrow?

Well, I thought someone was riding without lights the other night. When I caught him up I could see his front light was on, the rear had failed. So I told him it was off and he cheerfully thanked me. We were both on a cycle path so I wasn't worried about him being seen by motorists.

The riders who have no lights at all I just let them get on with it.

I read the title and thought a trikie had helped. Never mind.

Nope Barrow as in Barrow-in-Furness and not as in a Trike rider lol

Have to say I have actually been thinking of buying some real cheap lights and keeping them in my car. Recently I've seen a good few people on a bikes with either very poor lights or none. Yes one attitude can be to ignore them or decide its their own problem, but I thought for the sake of a few pounds ill keep some cheap ones and then when I see a poorly lit cyclist ill stop them and give them a light for free......

If my few pound giveaway means a child's mum or dad still comes home that night.....then its money well spent.

Oddly I had this thought last week after seeing a cyclist with no light on the road in the dark, as I got home that night my mrs came up with the same idea before I mentioned it....

They have a better outlook on life than i do. If it'd been me i'd have thought "Look at that dick riding without a light", then passed you without acknowledgement!

I had lights when I set out, rear failed mid ride....I get your attitude, but you never know. Its not hugely likely but it actually could be the case that the chap that cycled behind me prevented a car from hitting me last night. I do have an extremely bright front light so granted its likely people could see me from that alone, still I don't think I could pass someone without offering the help......it really could be the difference between life or death

You could try forcing yourself to do the kind thing now and again. It might then change your outlook on life for the better?
Wot she said. T'other day I caught a lad who had no rear light on a busy B road. I sat on his back wheel for a few hundred yards to give me a smug feeling and him a modicum of protection. And as a bonus I can boast about it on here.

Funny you should mention that TH, last night I was out and got passed by a rider whose rear light was out so I put in an effort, caught him and sat behind him for the last few miles. When he clocked me and looked over his shoulder I pointed at his unlit light and told him: "Just protecting you from the traffic Mate!" For some reason he didn't thank me for my selfless act; in fact I swear he rode a bit faster.
